An interview on Wednesday in between Ariel Helwani and Chael Sonnen rapidly degenerated into a screaming match in between the previous ESPN co-hosts on The MMA Hour
Helwani had Sonnen on to respond to Francis Ngannou‘s split choice loss this previous Saturday to Tyson Fury. Sonnen was asked to weigh his previous declarations about the battle with the outcome, and Ngannou’s pay rapidly became a subject of heated contention.
Sonnen contested Helwani’s reporting that Ngannou would likely bank in between $10-20 million for the boxing match, arguing the occasion was not effective on pay-per-view. The discussion gradually grew hostile, with Sonnen at one point threatening to “strangle” Helwani and Helwani consistently calling Sonnen a “phony.”
After minutes of back-and-forth shouting, Sonnen quickly ended the interview. Helwani wasn’t sure whether the three-time UFC title opposition was truly upset or not; the 2 regularly argued over business of MMA throughout their stint as co-hosts on Ariel and The Bad Guy
