While on a hot lap through the Jeddah Corniche Circuit’s snaking high-speed blasts, Sargeant needed to take averting action to prevent a slow-driving Lewis Hamilton through Turn 10.
As Hamilton moved over to the racing line, Sargeant needed to jink best to cross the kerbs, identifying the near-miss as “unsafe” on the group radio.
After the session Hamilton and Sargeant were both contacted us to the stewards, who gave out a cautioning to Hamilton and a 15,000-euro fine to Mercedes for what they considered a “major failure” to keep its motorist notified of approaching traffic.
“The Stewards spoke with the chauffeur of Car 44 (Lewis Hamiltonthe motorist of Car 2 (Logan Sargeantgroup agents and evaluated positioning/marshalling system information, video, group radio and in-car video proof and figure out that Car 44 hampered Car 2 at Turn 11,” the stewards’ decision read.
“As an outcome, Car 2 needed to take incredibly elusive action by going off the track to prevent a crash. Had actually that not been done, there would have been a severe, high-speed crash.”
“Having listened to the group radio, it was clear to us that the group of Car 44 stopped working to caution their chauffeur of the truth that Car 2 was showing up on a quick lap.
“That was a major failure on the part of the group, especially offered the speeds on this circuit and the nature of turn 11, which is at completion of a series of high-speed corners where chauffeur exposure suffers. We for that reason release an alerting to the chauffeur and enforce a fine of EUR15,000 to the group.”
