Let’s make one thing clear right at the start: I can not definitively state, with outright certainty, that Donald Trump dropped off to sleep throughout the Day of his criminal trial in New York. There’s no video footage of the procedures, and there were no photos taken as the jury choice procedure got underway.
There’s no excellent secret as to why this was a significant subject of discussion the other day. NBC News’ report summed up matters in this manner:
Trump’s eyes were closed throughout part of Monday’s procedures when [Judge Juan Merchan] read the prospective jurors his directions– producing speculation about whether he was sleeping or simply deep in idea.
As MSNBC’s on-air protection from the other day afternoon explained, other wire service provided the general public with associated observations. A New York Times reportfor instance, stated that the previous president “appeared to doze a couple of times, his mouth going slack and his head sagging onto his chest.”
Not long after, a Washington Post report included that Trump “closed his eyes and sometimes appeared to doze.”
Once again, I wasn’t there. I do not understand whether Trump went to sleep. I do understand that this reporting does not do the presumptive GOP candidate any favors.
There will be some who will no doubt argue that the underlying concern is not pertinent. What matters, they’ll state, are the substantive takeaways from a historical day and a severe criminal case including a previous American president. I’m not unsympa
